CHRISTMAS TREE RETURNS IN KENTUCKY

WASHINGTON - NOVEMBER 26: The 2007 White Hous...

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments as follows:

On November 3, we noted that the “War on Christmas” had begun. One piece of evidence that was offered was the decision to have a “Holiday Tree,” instead of a “Christmas Tree,” in Frankfort, Kentucky. But after getting pounded by outraged Christians, Gov. Steve Beshear has reversed himself: both he, and the state government, have now chosen to call the Christmas Tree the “Christmas Tree.”

Christians have every right to be insulted when agents of government refuse to acknowledge their holiday, and it matters not a whit if the stated purpose is inclusion. Indeed, the politics of inclusion is a malignant cultural cancer that needs to be wiped out, along with its parent ideology, multiculturalism.

Congratulations to Gov. Beshear can be extended by contacting his director of communications, Jill Midkiff: Jill.Midkiff@mail.state.ky.us

Ninth Circuit Orders A Full Court Review of Decision Upholding San Francisco’s Anti-Catholic Resolution

Friday, November 6, 2009

California - Golden Gate BridgeANN ARBOR, MI – The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit granted the Thomas More Law Center’s petition for en banc (full court) review of a three-judge panel opinion, which upheld a San Francisco City Board resolution virulently condemning the Catholic Church for its moral teachings on homosexuality.

The Thomas More Law Center, a national Christian legal advocacy group based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, promptly filed a petition for en banc review.  Click here to read Law Center petition.  In its order granting the petition, the Ninth Circuit vacated the prior ruling, stating, “The three-judge panel opinion shall not be cited as precedent by or to any court in the Ninth Circuit.”  Click here to read the order.  The case will now be reargued to the full court, which will consist of all judges eligible to hear the case (approximately 11 judges).

The anti-Catholic resolution, adopted March 21, 2006, was challenged by the Law Center on behalf of the Catholic League and two Catholic residents of San Francisco. The Board’s resolution refers to the Vatican as a “foreign country” meddling in the affairs of the City and proclaims the Church’s moral teaching and beliefs on homosexuality as “insulting to all San Franciscans, ” “hateful, ” “insulting and callous, ” “defamatory, ” “absolutely unacceptable, ”  “insensitive and ignoran.”  Click here to read the City’s resolution

Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel for the Law Center, commented, “In total disregard for our Constitution, homosexual activists in positions of power in San Francisco abused their authority as government officials to attack the Catholic Church.  Our constitution plainly forbids government hostility toward religion, including the Catholic faith.  And we are fully committed to fighting homosexual activists who seek to promote their personal political agenda at the expense of our constitutional freedoms.”

The Law Center’s lawsuit claimed the City’s anti-Catholic resolution violated the First Amendment, which “forbids an official purpose to disapprove of a particular religion, religious beliefs, or of religion in general.”  The Board’s resolution went so far as to urge the Archbishop of San Francisco and Catholic Charities of San Francisco to defy Church directives.  Click here to read the Law Center’s complaint filed on behalf of the Catholic League against the City.

The unanimous decision by the three-judge panel did have an interesting concurrence from Judge Berzon.  Click here to read the three-judge opinion.  In Judge Berzon’s concurring opinion, she states in part, “All of that said, I do find the result troublesome, and find much to agree with in Judge Noonan’s eloquent dissent in American Family. . . In particular, I am acutely aware that ‘the Constitution assures religious believers that units of government will not take positions that amount to the establishment of a policy condemning their religious belief, ’ . . . and that resolutions such as the ones in American Family and the one in this case are near – if not at – the line that separates establishment of such a policy.”

Robert Muise, the Law Center attorney who is handling the case, stated, “This is a significant case on many fronts.  Should the full court ultimately render a decision in our favor, this case will establish much needed precedent for claims alleging government hostility toward religion.  If the full court allows this government attack on Catholics to stand, it will likely further embolden anti-Christian attacks by government.  However, the fact that a majority of judges vacated the unanimous ruling and agreed to rehear the case en banc is a very good sign.”

According to Catholic doctrine, allowing children to be adopted by homosexuals would actually mean doing violence to these children, in the sense that their condition of dependency would be used to place them in an environment that is not conducive to their full human development.  Such policies are gravely immoral and Catholic organizations must not place children for adoption in homosexual households.

The Law Center argued that the “anti-Catholic resolution sends a clear message to Plaintiffs and others who are faithful adherents to the Catholic faith that they are outsiders, not full members of the political community, and an accompanying message that those who oppose Catholic religious beliefs, particularly with regard to homosexual unions and adoptions by homosexual partners, are insiders, favored members of the political community.”

Medal of Honor Winner Ed Freeman

You're a 19 year old kid.
You're critically wounded and dying in the jungle in the Ia Drang Valley.

November 11, 1965.
LZ X-ray , Vietnam .

Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away,
that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the MediVac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you're not getting out.
Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again.

As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then - over the machine gun noise - you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter.
You look up to see an unarmed Huey. But ... it doesn't seem real because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you.

He's not Medi-Vac so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway.

Even after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come.
He's coming anyway.

And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses.

And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!!

He took about 30 of you and your buddies out who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise , Idaho .

May God Rest His Soul.

I bet you didn't hear about this hero's passing, but we've sure seen a whole bunch
about
Michael Jackson. .. .

Goodness Has a Name

Homecoming
Homecoming, by Michael D. O’Brien

Written on the journey home…

AS our plane rises with the cumulous clouds into the atmosphere where angels and freedom dwell, my mind begins to drift back over my time in Europe…

———-

It wasn’t that long an evening, maybe an hour and a half. I sang a few songs, and spoke the message that was on my heart for the people of Killarney, Ireland. Afterwords, I prayed over the individuals who came forward, asking Jesus to pour out His Spirit again upon the mostly middle-aged and senior adults who came forward. They came, like little children, hearts open, ready to receive. As I prayed, an older man began to lead the small group in songs of praise. When it was all over, we sat looking at one another, our souls filled with the Spirt and joy. They didn’t want to leave. I didn’t either. But necessity carried me out the front doors with my hungry entourage.

Love God, Love One Another: "Be at Odds with No Man" by Rita Ring, May 6, 1994

Be at Odds with No Man

God's Blue Book III Cover

May 6, 1994

I cannot have division. It eats at My Heart. Make amends with your brothers. Do not live with division. Live in harmony. Do not prove yourself right, them wrong. Live by the Will of the Father.

Love him who is your brother. Despite your differences, respond in love. You must do My Will, but love your brothers. Be at odds with no man. If you are doing My Will, you do not have to justify yourself.

Do it, do not explain, always love one another, no matter any differences. Division, confusion and anger are created by Satan!

Do not leave anyone without a sense of love and goodwill. It will eat at you both as the worm eats the apple. Strive for love. Pray, when you are in conflict, to act only in love. I love you and I will help you.

POPE BENEDICT XVI: "We are never alone. We are part of a spiritual fellowship in which a deep solidarity reigns through the prayers of the living for the eternal repose of the dead and through the intercession of the holy deceased on behalf of those still living".

REVIEW: Life everlasting

FROM THE MAILBAG
Reflection by
Father Ted – November 03, 2009:

My dearest Lord Jesus, as we begin this sacred month of November, You remind me not only of Your tremendous love for us, but also of our need to respond to Your call to holiness.

On last Sunday, You enabled us to focus on the ultimate goal that You offer to me and to all of Your children. For You pointed out to us that heaven is our true goal and that we can only get there by responding to Your gifts of love – Your graces.

On last Sunday we celebrated “All Saints’ Day”. We focused on the myriads of men, women, boys, and girls who are enjoying eternal bliss with You, with Your and their Father, and with Your Holy Spirit. They not only see You as You are, they experience the fullness of the love that You have for them and for all of us who are still struggling on earth.

And because of this tremendous love experience, they also pray for us, here on earth, so that we will not merely desire to be with You and with them in heaven, but that we cooperate with all the graces that You offer to us to achieve sanctity.

Yesterday, You allowed us to celebrate “All Souls’ Day” when we were permitted to focus on the needs of our deceased brothers and sisters who are being purified in Purgatory. You not only allow us to pray for them, You want us to pray for them.

Because of this desire of Your’s – namely, to pray for the Souls in Purgatory, You permitted Pope Benedict XV to allow us priests to offer three Masses on this day, just like we can do on Christmas Day.

You want us to help these brothers and sisters who have died and have not yet entered into Heaven.

This is the way we can show to them our love.

We help them by offering Masses for them, by praying the Rosary for them, by praying such prayers as the Litany of the Holy Souls for them, by praying the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for them – especially at the 3’o clock hour.

In fact, because of Your desire for us to assist them on the journey to heaven, You have set aside for us this whole month – to pray for our deceased brothers and sisters.

Today, You also reminded me of the importance of praying for the living as well – that during our life on earth we focus on doing Your Will each day.

Today, You allowed me to be present at the funeral of a young man, only 19 years old, who died in a car accident last week. I didn’t know him, but I knew his younger sister who used to serve some of my Masses.

Was he ready to die – I don’t know. I only hope so.

Did he receive a merciful judgment? I hope so.

Does he need my prayers, and the prayers of others? Most likely.

If he doesn’t, then others will benefit for these prayers – especially for the Masses offered for the repose of his soul.

Jesus, teach us to live each day as if today will be our last day on earth. Teach us to love You with all our hearts, with all our souls, with all of our strength. May we love You most of all.

Ladder of Divine Ascent excerpt: Step 24- "On meekness, simplicity and guilelessness"

3. Meekness consists in praying calmly and sincerely for a neighbour when he causes many turmoils.

Love God, Love One Another: "Hold on to Me, My Child" by Rita Ring, May 6, 1994

Hold on to Me, My Child

God's Blue Book III Cover

May 6, 1994 5:00a.m.

Hold on to Me, My child. You are never abandoned by Me. I need you to do this work. Please, My sweet child, this is the persecution. You will be persecuted by those closest to you. Satan wants you stopped.

I am Jesus. I am the Son of God. I am calling you to unite with all, My child. I need you to work for Me. If you give in, He will not leave you alone.

I have chosen you for the work at hand and I need you. Let go, sweet one. I am the Alpha and the Omega.

R. I cannot see myself as "you are wrong, I am right." If I take up the sword, I will perish by the sword.

Lord, I am Your daughter. I am sinful in holding on to anger and resentment. My weapon is the burning love within my heart for Jesus, my beloved!
