Benedict, and the End of the World

WHEN the Lord inspired me to begin this writing apostolate, I had no idea that it would blossom into several hundred writings read regularly now by thousands throughout the world. With Christmas, the feast of Christ’s coming just around the corner, this seems like a good time to collect some of the central thoughts scattered throughout this website for the sake of new readers, or those still trying to grasp the larger picture presented here. (First published December 18th, 2008).

[MaryVitamin] Presentation

Mary Vitamin for November

Topic: Presentation of Mary in the Temple (November 21)

Quote:
"God himself, with the whole heavenly court," says Bernardine de Bustis,"made great rejoicings on that day beholding his spouse coming to the temple."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books: 1978), 340-1.

Meditation:
"Mary was not only given promptly to God, but she was also given entirely. No venial sin, no blemish of any kind, impaired the perfection of the offering. No created thing could restrain her in her zeal for God; nothing could tempt her or turn her for a moment from her Creator. On the contrary, all things around her served only as additional incentives, urging her towards that God Whom she loved so well. All her feelings and affections combined to form an example of a perfect life, given entirely to God."

At the young age of three,  Our Lady went to the Temple, with her hands empty and outstretched in offering. She gave the great gift of Herself: promptly, joyfully, completely and irrevocably. God cannot be outdone in generosity.  He planned to put into Her open hands of offering the gift of the Inc

arnate Word of God.

Resolution:
Today I will continue to open my hands before the crucifix and offer my heart to God in imitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, but today, I will pause to receive the gift of the Lord Himself. Just as Mary received the Infant Son of God, I too will be given Jesus as my treasure.

Marian Vow:
"Many pious and learned writers, and even great theologians, believe that Mary, by a special privilege, received the perfect use of reason in the very first moment of her existence. The present feast, then, recalls to us her vow of virginity comprised in the entire offering of herself, or the solemn ratification of that consecration. Many religious communities have been led by this belief to adopt the practice of taking or renewing their vows on this day."

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received

Dear Children of Medjugorje

Praised be Jesus and Mary!

1 – On November 2nd Mirjana received her monthly apparition at the Blue Cross, at the foot of Apparition Hill.  After the apparition, she shared the following message:

“Dear children! Also today I am among you to point you to the way that will help you to come to know God’s love, the love of God Who permitted you to call Him Father and to perceive Him as Father. I ask of you to sincerely look into your hearts and to see how much you love Him. Is He the last to be loved? Surrounded by material goods, how many times have you betrayed, denied and forgotten Him? My children, do not deceive yourselves with worldly goods. Think of your soul because it is more important than the body, cleanse it. Invoke the Father, He is waiting for you. Come back to Him. I am with you because He, in His mercy, sends me. Thank you!”

2 –  The power of Confession!  To bring something to light is to bring victory! An Italian friend of mine, Cristina, understands what “the soul is more important than the body” means.  A very beautiful woman, happily married for the past 12 years, Cristina and her loving husband had three children.  Cristina’s strong faith has helped her to persevere in its practice, and everything in her life ran like clockwork.  Until one day, during a dinner party, she met another man and immediately fell for him.  He was in her thoughts, her imagination and in her heart.  Her whole being was seized by thoughts of him.  She couldn’t resist.  Troubled by her obsession, and knowing the man felt the same attraction toward her, she asked God to protect her.  So often she was afraid that she would act upon her feelings, and she did not want to betray her husband. As a precaution, she asked her husband to join her whenever she went out, so that he could protect her.  After 3 weeks, Cristina went to Confession like she did every month, as asked by Our Lady in Medjugorje.  Soon after the Confession began, even though she hadn’t committed adultery with the new man in her life, she divulged her attraction for this man and the temptations she could barely resist to the priest.  The priest listened to her, and after giving her a few pointers to resist the temptations, he gave her absolution.  At that moment, as the words of absolution were being said, all the attraction that Cristina had to this man disappeared completely, like the smoke of a cigarette in the wind. She felt like she was just coming out of a bizarre movie, back to reality. “But what was it that attracted me in this man?” She pondered. “He is nothing special!” She could no longer comprehend how she could have been so attracted to him even just a few minutes earlier!

“I didn’t realize the power of this Sacrament,” she would later tell.  “A simple absolution delivered me! I understood that the Evil one does not like the light, he needs darkness to act and to dissimulate the ugliness of his acts. So I just needed to bring all this to the light (a great humiliation for me!) and expose all the temptations to the priest for satan to let go!”

Thank you Lord for this family who escaped destruction! Cristina's habit of monthly Confession saved it.

3 – Help Medjugorje!  A call from the parish of St James at Medjugorje: Fr. Danko, Assistant Pastor, is collecting testimonies from those who received their call to priesthood or religious life through Medjugorje. It will allow that the fruits of Medjugorje, over the past 28 years, be examined. This request will be very important in Rome. “A tree is known by its fruits.”  This is why whoever this request personally affects, or whoever knows of someone who is personally affected, is invited to take it very seriously. Your responses may be one page in your native language.  Please, be very specific in stating your facts, providing your date of birth and current address, as well as the necessary details to allow the review committee to contact you if necessary.  You may send the final draft in 2 different ways:

By this e-mail address, provided by the Parish of Medjugorje: vianney500@gmail.com

There is a questionnaire to be filled out on the parish website: www.medjugorje.hr

4 — I give thanks to God for a great anniversary! Exactly 20 years ago, on December 5th 1989, in bone freezing weather, we arrived in Medjugorje to settle.  My first time here was in June 1984, when the village was still in its primitive state, and I am so happy to have known it during those very particular times that will never come back. In September 1989 then, I came again with 2 Sisters, this time to make an interview for our French magazine Feu et Lumiere.

I had barely set foot on this fiery ground when Our Lady grabbed my heart, as she does so well!  I experienced a very powerful inner calling to team up with her and to become an instrument in her hands to carry out her plans.  I could see that she was in need of help, and that saddened me.  I wanted to spread her messages - pearls of great price - and to help her motherly voice to reach out to a large number of hearts. Her message, “Without you, dear Children, I cannot help the world. I need you!” Though she addressed this message to everyone, it haunted me.

Back in France, I shared this call with the founder of my Community.  After praying at length about it, he confirmed my calling and said to me: “You leave in a month, get ready!  Take a Sister along with you!”  Sister Marie Raphael was chosen and she became my dear companion for the first year.

We lodged in a very tiny room, freezing cold, half of a mile away from the St. James, but we were so happy to be in Medjugorje!  It was the “golden age” of Medjugorje when, even for wealthy pilgrims, it was such a joy just being there, in the midst of very poor conditions, just praying under Mary’s mantle; just knowing that she would come today again to this untouched, beautiful place.

Thanks to St. Joseph’s generosity, we arrived in Medj. with a car and, when it was too cold in the house, we’d get into the car to sing our morning liturgy, the Lauds. That car was our only possession, but it enabled us to do our shopping in Citluk. We were still under the Communist regime, and in those days, the supplies available at the market near the post office were to be avoided!

We spent hours on the mountains, asking Our Lady to show us what she wanted from us.  I remember, during that short time, Marie Raphael told me, “I’m saturated with idleness!”  That word would never be repeated in the future, it did not take Our Lady long to answer our desire to help!  We were employed full time by the Gospa, to the point that we flopped into bed late at night in wonderful exhaustion.

Throughout these past 20 years, Our Lord has been guiding us gently, despite our blunders, and lack of conversion.  But we were never short of enthusiasm, nor of gratitude!  Every day we renewed our commitment.  We wouldn’t miss a single bit of this extraordinary plan, divine indeed, enfolding from Medjugorje for the salvation of our restless world.

On March 19th 1990 (St. Joseph’s Feast day!), we founded the French apostolate, “Les Enfants de Medjugorje” which became Children of Medjugorje in which you are taking part today!  The path we walked since then would fill entire books to relate, including the period of the war!  I thank you from the bottom of my heart: your faithfulness and your prayers have done so much to hold us up!  And I could never give thanks enough to God for those 20 years of happiness and struggles; of intimacy with the Divine, and of crosses.  And so I want to join with David, King of Israel, in his song: “How could I repay the Lord for all He has done for me?” (Psalm 116:12)

5 - The year for priests: This month, our prayer for priests will be taken from St. Faustina Kowalska:

“O my Jesus, I beg you on behalf of the whole Church: grant it love and the light of Your Spirit, and give power to the works of priests, so that hardened hearts might be brought to repentance and return to You, O Lord.

Lord, give us holy priests; You Yourself maintain them in holiness. O Divine and Great High Priest, may the power of Your mercy accompany them everywhere and protect them from the devil's traps and snares, which are continually being set for the souls of priests.

May the power of Your mercy, O Lord, shatter and bring to naught all that might tarnish the sanctity of priests, for You can do all things. I ask You, Jesus, for a special blessing and for light for the priests before whom I will make my confessions throughout my lifetime. Amen.” (Diary, §1051)

5 – Mission in the United States and Canada, October 11th – 26th, 2009.  It has been a deep joy for me to finish a 16-day mission in the States (+ Canada) this past October!  With my assistants, we felt the hand of God over us, and His blessing throughout the mission, everywhere we went.  I was especially impressed by the very special attentiveness on the part of the people, as never before according to my experience of the past years in the North America.  For our 3-day retreat in St. Malo, Colorado, we had 100 people.  Among them were our dear President of Children of Medjugorje, Mr. Arnie Ochs and his wife, as well as many collaborators of COM.  It made the whole retreat a kind of “Family gathering” around Our Lady.  It was a very special and intimate time, a delight!

Sister Emmanuel with Children of Medjugorje Summit Retreat 2009 Priests: Fr Greg, Fr Mark, Fr Tom, and Fr Francesco at St Malo Retreat Center, Colorado

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have participated in those venues, those who have opened their home to us, and especially all our many and invisible friends who have humbly supported this mission with prayer, fasting and sacrifices.  May God reward all of you 100-fold in graces and blessings!

Dearest Gospa, may you be as happy with us as we are with you!

 ---------------------------------------

PS1:  Our retreat and many of Sister Emmanuel’s talks throughout the US mission were professionally recorded.  We are currently working on editing them in order to get them into production over the next couple of weeks.  We will send out an email as soon as they become available –hopefully in plenty of time for holidays, as they will make beautiful Christmas gifts!

PS 2: Vicka is still suffering in the Zagreb clinic, while her therapy is ongoing. Let us keep praying for her and with her! Father Jozo Zovko left his Croatian island and is now living in Austria. He is well.

PS 3 - Banning the crucifixes? We are very proud of our Italian fiends who tried so hard to reject the request from the Strasburg High European Court to remove all crucifixes from schools! They have organized protests and they even have added crucifixes where they were missing.  Let’s be always standing for Christ!

PS 4 – Read it. Spread it! The Hidden Child of Medjugorje by Sr. Emmanuel. You won’t regret giving this book to a friend as a shower gift or a wedding gift!  In the US go to our store: http://www.childrenofmedjugorje.com  then click “Shop COM.”

Thoughts on the "Last Things"

Tribulation Times

THE TRIB TIMES WILL RETURN NEXT WEEK, GOD WILLING (James 4:15).

(Mar 13:31-33) Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my word shall not pass away. But of that day or hour no man knoweth, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father. Take ye heed, watch and pray. For ye know not when the time is.

SAINT FAUSTINA: The Origin of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy

MANILLA BULLETIN: Only tragedy, not to be a saint

As regards becoming a saint, when you tell that to someone, chances are he will look at you oddly and say, "To be a saint? That's not for me. I'm too worldly for that."

But the truth is our ultimate goal is and should be to become a saint. In short, to attain heaven. If you don't aspire to reach heaven, where will you be in the next life?

Someone quipped, "There are only two places in the next life: the smoking (hell) and non-smoking (heaven) area. Will you spend your eternity - in the smoking or non-smoking area?"

Are you doing every means to achieve that goal? As the French novelist Leon Bloy rightly puts it: "The only tragedy in life is no

t to be a saint."

By the way, saints in heaven are not only those canonized, those with capital S, but also those with small S who are already there but were not officially declared saints by the Church.

Becoming a saint does not mean imitating the extraordinary feats of someone like the martyrs who died for their faith. If you can do it, great. In fact, today we need more heroes of the Church.

Becoming a saint in our modern times means more of imitating people who fell down and kept trying to rise.

They may have committed mistakes in their marriage or religious life, but kept coming back, faithfully following the Lord. Remember such saints like St. Peter who denied the Lord, St. Paul, formerly the fierce persecutor of Jesus' disciples, Matthew, the hated tax collector, the adulterous woman?

If such people have anything extraordinary about them, it is that they never stopped trying to live the will of God in their day-to-day lives. They were ordinary people with extraordinary faith and determination.

FROM THE MAILBAG
VIA
Frank Rega: Below are some spicy excerpts from my new, forthcoming book about Luisa Piccarreta.

On the coming era:

The world is doing everything it can to banish Jesus from society, from schools, from conversations – from everything.  But while the world is plotting to destroy His Church and to kill his ministers, Jesus is preparing an Era of Love – the era of the third Fiat.  He will confound the world by means of love.  Wherever He has been banished, He will raise His throne, and reign in an astonishing way, such that man will fall at the foot of His throne as though bound by the power of His love.  His love will be shown in a marvelous and unheard of way.  Therefore Luisa must be attentive because He wants her to be with Him, so they can work together in preparing this celestial and divine Era of Love.

If they want to make war, so be it.  When they get tired, Jesus will make His war . . . of love.  Their tiredness in evil, their disenchantment and disillusionment, will dispose them to receive His war.   All of the acts of Luisa and those of others done in His Volition will wage war – but not a war of blood.   It will be waged with weapons of love, giving forth graces, gifts, and peace, such as to astonish ungrateful man.  The acts done in His Will, carrying the creative power within themselves, and descending from heaven, will bring all goods upon earth.

Christ the King

I handle each soul individually. I give you exactly what you need to do My work. It is in acceptance of what I give you that you will learn what you need to learn. Here is your will again. You want your way. I do things My way. I am God. I know all things. Surrender, child. Do as I ask you to do. If I wanted to give you visions and signs, I would. I give you as I know you will need.

You must teach others to find Me in their hearts. I am as present as I am when you see Me. If you see Me, you believe. Blessed

is he who does not see and believes!

I am giving you what you need. Quit trying to look for signs and wonders. My children, My children, I am present in your hearts! I, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, come to you in Holy Communion. I come inside of you. Do you see the miracle in this?

Spend time with Me after Communion. Don't look anywhere else. I, Jesus, am truly there and you walk away from Me and do senseless things. Then you want a sign? A sign is not as powerful as God within your breast! You miss the magnificence of this gift, child. God, truly present, dwells within you after Holy Communion. Be with Me. Listen in the silence. I will talk to you in your heart.

The risen Christ is with you at every Mass and enters your body. This is a miracle. Do you realize how present I am to you? This is the miracle I give to you. If I appeared to you, I am not closer than this. Relish the gifts I have given you. You want more? You weaken your relationship with Me. I communicate in your hearts. I need you to preach that God is truly talking in the inner promptings of your heart. Who will preach this if you yourself do not know. Come sit in silence with Me. Be still one hour a day. It is so little when I give you 24 hours. No one has the answers you need. No one on this earth knows what you need to know. Quit asking humans supernatural questions. Come to Me and I will give you all you need.

Pray to End Abortion Bulletin

Posted by Fr. Frank Pavone

Dear Friends,

Sunday is the Feast of Christ the King and the last Sunday of the liturgical year. The following week, Advent begins and the Church focuses on the coming of Christ, both at Christmas and at the end of time.

Christ is truly king over heaven and earth. How important it is for us to remember that in this battle for health care reform to protect the unborn. This battle is ultimately about who rules over us; it is about who our King is. Our worship of Christ as King of Kings and Lord of Lords impels us to communicate with our elected representatives and urge them to do what is right.

God bless you.

MEDJUGORJE NEWS FROM SPIRITDAILY.COM

When reading this article, this paragraph caught my attention:

Excerpted from http://www.spiritdaily.com/bishopsversusseers.htm

In some cases, it is not only bishops versus seers and laity, but bishop versus priests, and even bishops disagreeing with each other. While Ratko Peric, the bishop who oversees Medjugorje,  in Bosnia-Hercegovina, loudly declaims the famous apparitions, the Vatican, which may soon issue a statement on Medjugorje, has removed his authority to rule on the events and hundreds of bishops have visited the site, including, two weeks ago, the papal nuncio from Austria -- Archbishop Stephan Zurbriggen. Shortly, Medjugorje will also be visited by a group of pilgrims led by Cardinal Christopher Schönborn of Austria -- who directed writing of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Astonishingly, a Sarajevo cardinal recently said there is no Vatican commission studying Medjugorje, after stating last year that there was one being formed. Meanwhile, pilgrims are allowed to go there.

[MaryVitamin] preparing for the Presentation

Mary Vitamin for November 18th

Topic: Presentation of Mary in the Temple (November 21)

Quote:
"There never was, and never will be, an offering on the part of a pure creature greater or more perfect than that which Mary made to God when, at the age of three years, she presented herself in the temple to offer him, not aromatical spices, nor calves, nor gold, but her entire self, consecrating herself as a perpetual victim in his honor."
St. Alphonsus di Liguori, The Glories of Mary, (Tan Books: 1978), 33
Presentation of Jesus at the Temple

7.

Meditation:
Part of St. Francis de Sales’ sermon for the Presentation of Mary in the Temple.
"Let us pass on now to the third point, which is the absolute surrender of our glorious Mistress to the Divine Majesty. It is thus that we must give ourselves totally to the Lord because the Saviour does not want us to do what He Himself cannot do ”which is to give Himself to us partially. His goodness is so great that He wishes to give Himself to us totally. Similarly, He desires, and it is only just that we give ourselves to Him without reserve.
There remains what is most difficult to give up, yourself, your own will. It must be annihilated entirely, without reserve."
The Sermons of St. Francis de Sales on Our Lady, (Tan Books:1985), 44.

Our Lady, even at the tender age of three, was well advanced in the paths of holiness. She well understood the desires of God. She did not try to hand Him things, but rather Her own heart, Immaculate and pure.

Resolution:
Today I will imitate Our Lady's gift of self. Today I will think of Our Lady standing in the Temple seemingly empty handed but actually giving to God the greatest gift any creature has ever offered. Today, when I pass the crucifix, I will show my empty hands to the Lord on the cross and imitate Our Lady's offering of her Heart.

Marian Vow:
St. Francis de Sales
God is not satisfied with our offerings when they are not accompanied by that of our own heart, the Divine Majesty asks first for our heart. 'My son, give Me your heart' [Prov. 23:26], says this incomparable Goodness, and after that your offerings will be pleasing to Me."
The Sermons of St. Francis de Sales on Our Lady, (Tan Books:1985), 44.

I will tap my heart in remembering my Marian Vow.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.
