November 20, 2009

(1Ma 2:19-22) Then Mathathias answered, and said with a loud voice: Although all nations obey king Antiochus, so as to depart every man from the service of the law of his fathers, and consent to his commandments: I and my sons, and my brethren will obey the law of our fathers. God be merciful unto us: it is not profitable for us to forsake the law, and the justices of God: We will not hearken to the words of king Antiochus, neither will we sacrifice and transgress the commandments of our law, to go another way.

Natural Law is ignored.

Man and Woman, well, that's old fashioned.

If we object to bizarre life styles we are accused of Hate Crimes.

We believe we can manipulate God given seeds to become disease resistant and at the same time sterile for future use. Look at the poor farmers in India that can no longer save their seeds for next year (because of Monsanto and Dow Chemicals GMO death seeds) and the farmers can not afford to buy more.

Man now believes that he controls Life, Health, and Death.
Abortion! Cancer, Heart Disease, Big Drug, Big Farm, Big Gov.

We want a treaty on climate change so that we may have One World Government.

It is clear to me that our health is a function of what we eat, Not the medicines we take that more often do not cure, but, leave us with side effects more severe than if we did not take them.

There are cures and preventatives for Heart Disease and Cancer.
And there are M.D.s , Dr. Weir, Dr. Whitaker, as well as Natural Practitioners that do not always need Big Drug to cure.

So please pray that there is a return to God, before He tires of our shenanigans and brings us back to our knees or cave man days.

Love God, Love One Another: "Fast for Me" by Rita Ring, May 11, 1994

Fast for Me

God's Blue Book III Cover

May 11, 1994 After Communion

If you seek any gratification in this world, it is only momentary. Nothing that you seek here will be an end in itself. You fool yourself. You think you aren't attached. Then it is taken away and you start to kick and scream. "Why, God? Why this?" You are so attached to people and jobs and food and you do not know how attached you are until you are forced to give it up. Fasting is a way to teach you to give up your attachments. Fasting is a way to discipline yourself. Fasting is a way to holiness. If you constantly reward yourself with food, you are attached to food. I call you to holiness. Holiness is not easy. Fasting is not easy. You must eat properly, eat good bread that will sustain you often through the day. Drink a lot of water. You will feel better than if you ate food. I am in control. Go to Communion as often as possible. Communion is t

he true Body of Jesus Christ.

The way to Me is surrender. The way to Me is doing as I will you to do. Your union with Me depends on your doing the Will of the Father, surrendering yourself, giving in when you don't want to, loving when you don't want to. Pray to love as I will you to love. You do not even know how far you are from holiness. Pray to be holy. Pray for surrender. Pray to be selfless. Pray My Prayer for Union with Me. If you are gratifying yourself with worldly things, you are keeping yourself from Me. This world is passing. I need your sacrifices. Souls are at stake. You can help save a soul from eternal damnation through your prayers and sacrifices. Do you realize this? Live to draw others closer to Me and to help souls to get to heaven. Play the song,

"Thank You for Giving to the Lord."

My way is not easy. You are not gratified here in worldly things. You go so far, then the devil says, "Don't fast." Fast this day. You can help to save souls from the fires of hell by your prayers today. You can lead others back to Me with your sacrifices. Do you want your brothers to be converted? Then fast! Mortify yourself. Eat good food on the other days. Constantly sacrifice. Sustain yourself with food. Do not live to gratify yourself with food!

I am calling you to holiness and sainthood. Do you want to convert your brothers? Then do as I ask. The devil will try to get you to eat and tell you that you needn't fast. I want you to fast this day. You will be okay health-wise. I am God. The hairs of your head are numbered, child. I have all the power! Pray for your beloved brothers. Time is so short. You can help your brothers on their journey for eternal life. Will you answer My call? Fast for conversions. Please, I beg you this day, say "yes" to Me!

New Resource: "How to Choose a Catholic College."

Dear brother or sister in Christ,

Do you know anyone who could use some help choosing a college?

How about a teacher, counselor or priest who advises Catholic parents and teens?

For many years, an important part of my priestly ministry has been helping parents and students get a solid Catholic education.

And now I have a way to reach even more families, but I need your help to do so!

I don’t have to tell you how important it is that young people walk in the Way of Christ during their college years.

Fortunately there are many faithful Catholic colleges that help students discern Christ’s calling for them as they prepare for leadership in the Church and society.

But there are also many Catholic colleges where the opposite may be the case... where the lure of the secular world dominates campus life, and respect for Catholic teaching is too often absent from the classroom.

At the wrong college, students risk losing sight of Christ.

To help families navigate the confusing college search process, I helped The Cardinal Newman Society author a new brochure, “How to Choose a Catholic College.”

My essay in the brochure was adapted from my article in The NewmanGuide to Choosing a Catholic College, as was the note to parents and students from my friend Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R.

I hope that you will help me get this important FREE resource into the hands of as many Catholic families as possible.

The Cardinal Newman Society—which has faithfully worked for the renewal of Catholic higher education for more than 16 years—is offering these brochures for you to distribute at no cost.

If you would like a ten pack of “How to Choose a Catholic College,” you may request them by

Thank you for distributing this simple but effective new resource for Catholic families, and may God bless you and our Holy Mother Church!

         Yours in Christ,

P.S.  I should add a note of thanks to The Cardinal Newman Society for producing and underwriting the distribution of tens of thousands of these helpful FREE brochures!

"The Twelve Rules of Christmas"

Calling for Common Sense About Christmas, Rutherford Institute Issues Legal Guidelines for Celebrating Christmas in Public, at School or Work

"The Twelve Rules of Christmas" guidelines are available at
www.rutherford.org

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA,

Nov. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- Hoping to alleviate any confusion over the do's and don'ts of celebrating Christmas in schools, workplaces and elsewhere, The Rutherford Institute has issued its "Twelve Rules of Christmas" guidelines, which are available at www.rutherford.org. Rutherford Institute attorneys are preparing to deal with the annual onslaught of calls to their legal hotline regarding the censorship of Christmas celebrations. In years past, the Institute has been besieged by calls from parents and teachers alike complaining about schools changing their Christmas concerts to "winter holiday programs" and renaming Christmas "winter festival" or cancelling holiday celebrations alt

ogether to avoid offending those who do not celebrate the various holidays.

Individuals with legal questions or in need of legal assistance should call (434) 978-3888 or email staff@rutherford.org

"Political correctness should never trump the First Amendment," said John W. Whitehead, president of The Rutherford Institute. "Schools, government officials and businesses have an opportunity to take the high road and not be relegated to playing the Grinch this Christmas. It's time for some common sense this Christmas."

Whitehead pointed to an incident that happened a few years ago in a Chicago suburb as a perfect example of Christmas celebrations being sabotaged by political correctness. Schools in Oak Hill, Ill., had decided to cancel traditional holiday celebrations, such as Christmas, under pressure from a parent. Halloween was to be renamed "fall festival," and Christmas "winter festival." However, after angry parents voiced their objections at an emergency meeting, school board officials reportedly agreed to allow traditional holiday celebrations. In years past, nativity displays, Christmas carols, Christmas trees, wreaths, candy canes and even the colors red and green have been banned as part of the effort to avoid any reference to Christmas, Christ or God. Thanksgiving has also come under fire in recent years. Several years ago, for example, Institute attorneys were contacted by a concerned parent who remarked that whereas in previous years teachers in their school district had been told not to mention Christmas, Easter or anything relating to God, they could no longer even mention the word "Thanksgiving"

because "the pilgrims offended the Indians" and "Thanksgiving was never intended to be thanks to God!" Another parent with children in the public schools was upset and concerned when she received a letter from school officials directing classroom mothers not to use plates and napkins with Thanksgiving printed on them at their children's fall parties. As she recounted, "It seems like they are worried about offending just one person and are worried about law suits. In the past, this school has gone from 'winter' parties that banned red and green cupcakes and napkins, to banning any winter party in fear that it may be mistaken for Christmas."

Leaving Moscow by Robert Moynihan

Fragments of an Analysis

By Robert Moynihanreporting from Moscow

=====================================

"In faith there is enough light for those who want to believe — and enough shadows to blind those who don't." —Blaise Pascal

=====================================

Lights and Shadows

And so it comes to the time of leaving, and of summing up.

Who can sum up Russia? (Photo: St. Basil's Cathedral at the end of Red Square two nights ago.)

I can only offer glimpses, blurry photographs, impressions, fragments of conversations. And yet, these too have their significance.

And from them, one can try to draw conclusions, without pretending that the conclusions are entirely valid, but only that they are possible.

My first thought is: confusion. Not just in Russia, but everywhere.

Russia is not Russia. Or at least, not the Russia I imagined. I imagined "Holy Russia," filled with silent, holy monks and splendid, divine liturgies.

(Photo: A mid-November sun above the Kremlin of Kazan, the capital of Tartarstan; the photo is taken in front of the sanctuary where the holy icon of Our Lady of Kazan is currently kept. For more on the icon, see yesterday's report.)

But it is a very human and very secularized Russia, especially in Moscow, its streets crowded with cars, its churches often empty, its clubs crowded with pleasure-seekers, its leaders intent, for the most part, I am told, on lining their own pockets and vacationing in the Crimea, or Switzerland, or Miami, or Italy, or Egypt, or the Maldives -- any place warm -- and the nation be damned.

But then, America is no longer America, and Italy no longer Italy. We have all been changed by the industrial, scientific, information and communications revolutions — changed utterly.

The news on CNN on the television as I leave my room in the Danilovsky Hotel is that the Catholic Church in Washington D.C. is protesting a likely ruling of the Washington D.C. city council that will require the Catholic Church's social agencies to place orphaned children with homosexual couples. Obviously, America is no longer the simple America of "Mom and apple pie."

And in Italy, once Catholic, the European Union has ordered that crucifixes no longer be displayed in public places. And so the Constantinian revolution is reversed after 1,700 years.

In the modern West, virtues once honored are honored no longer, and vices, like greed, once denounced as harmful to the person and his or her eternal soul, are now defended as "rights" and even praised as new virtues.

"You are right about the confusion, Bob," Leonid Sevastianov, 31, the executive director of the Russian Orthodox St. Gregory of Nazianzus Charitable Foundation tells me. (The St. Gregory Foundation was established a few weeks ago with the blessing of Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill.)

"All Russians know that our country is not what it should be," he continues. "This is why we are working as we are, and why we want your help, the help of Catholics, and of Western Europeans and Americans.

"We are grateful that Communism ended, but clearly we have not yet found our way to a true democracy. There is corruption everywhere — in our government, in our legal system, and, as our faith teaches us, in ourselves. None of us is innocent.

(Photo: A young Fidel Castro with Soviet Premier Nikita Krushchev on the wall of the Che Guevara cafe in Moscow, which is decorated in a whimsical "Soviet style."

"But the bottom line is, we are getting tired of the way things are. We don't want to live like this anymore. We are afraid of the consequences if we do not change course. It could be the end of Russia.

"And this is precisely the reason that Patriarch Kirill has called for the moral renewal of Russia, through a return to the deep values of the Christian faith. And at his state of the nation address five days ago, Mr.  Medvedevalso urged Russia to develop, or rather, to return to, traditional values. So what we in the Church are proposing seems to have support also at the presidential level, as a national project.

"This is why I am working on the new foundation of St. Gregory, which will work inside Russia, but also with you Catholics in the West. Why? Because in one hundred years, it will not be important how much money I made, or what great secular initiatives I undertook, but what I did for God and the Church.

"We want a revolution in values. No more celebrity idols whose private lives are scandalous. Our 'idols' should be the mother who is raising five children, the father who is working hard to support and educate his children. This is our vision."

=============================

Quo vadis, Russia? ("Where are you going, Russia?")

I was surprised by the pessimism I found in Russia these past few days. One leading Russian economist, once a prominent liberal, told me that the country is under the control of a new elite which occupies 77% of all the leading positions on Russian society, in politics, the media, finance and the legal profession.

His depiction of Russia as almost a "gangster state" without any semblance of the "rule of law" was a drak and gloomy one. And in the media these past few days was the story of a policeman paid by powerful authorities to arrest a man he knew was innocent and fabricate evidence against him.

And so those who are critical of Russia today are not without reason.

But there is another side to the picture.

It is a side with more hope. And even the secular world recognizes the existence of this side.

It is the side of moral renewal, the side of the return to traditional values, the side, at least notionally, represented by Patriarch Kirill and Archbishop Hilarion Alfeyev and Bishop Anastasi of Kazan and the Russian Orthodox Church in general.

Even Forbes magazine this week named Kirill as one of the most powerful leaders in Russia today.

"They placed him at #7," Leonid tells me, then adds, "but that is silly, he is actually #1, no one is more respected in Russia than he is, the editors at Forbes simply don't know Russia."

And so the question of Russia's future becomes, once again, the question of the Orthodox Church.

And here as well there are lights and shadows. (Photo, Red Square by night.)

There are vestiges of the Soviet system which still remain, and dangers from a too-rapid embrace of modern Western Christian ideas.

There are temptations toward a "politicization," toward making the Church simply an arm of what is still in some ways a "bandit state," rather than a "loyal opposition" which seeks to reform the ethical and social life of the entire nation.

I believe the Orthodox Church is slowly, gropingly, developing a strategy which is not fascist, not nationalist -- though the Church does seek the preservation of the Russian nation and people -- but Christian. And the efforts to reach out to Catholics are, for me, the proof of this.

For me, if the "siloviki," the heirs of the Soviet secret services who still have enormous power in Russia 18 years after Gorbachev dissolved the Soviet Union, often hidden from public view, win this cultural and moral battle, and the Orthodox Church fails, Russia's "oligarchs" could consume themselves, and their country.

In this context, I think of Kazan, and of that lonely chapel where "the protection of Russia," the icon of Our Lady of Kazan, is preserved, after having been lost to Russia from 1918 until 2004, for 86 years.

Recently, the city of Kazan was awarded the World University Games, a type of Youth Olympic Games.

Could not this opportunity be seized upon by the city of Kazan, the government of Tartarstan, the government of Russia, and the Orthodox Church, given the internal situation in Russia, and the nation's demographic crisis, and the lost youth of this generation, who do not imagine getting married and having children and raising them together, to promote the culture of life and traditional family values?

Svetlana Medvedev, the wife of Russia's president, Dmitri Medvedev, is an ardent Orthodox believer. (Photo of the Medvedev couple, left; both are 44 years old.)

She has asked that the present year be declared the "Year of the Family" in Russia.

Perhaps she could be persuaded to make the health of children and of families one of the central concerns framing the 2013 athletic games in Kazan, when athletes from around the world will converge on that city.

I have to leave Russia now.

May God bless Russia, and may she be consecrated to Mary, who has watched over and protected Russia so often in the past. She continues to protect Russia -- even from herself -- and to call upon all Russians to choose a path which leads to life.

The music tells the Christmas story in the deep, rich tradition of Russian ecclesial music, using the Russian language and English subtitles.

On December 17, 2007, a leading Russian orchestra performed an exceptional "world premiere" concert of Russian Christmas music at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. Now you can order your copy of the concert on DVD, which includes English sub-titles.

The music is a completely new composition by a young Russian Orthodox Bishop, Hilarion Alfeyev, 42, who, at the time, was the Russian Orthodox bishop for all of central Europe, based in Vienna, Austria and now is the head of the External Relations Department of the Russian Orthodox Church.

A Talk by Dr. Robert Moynihan on CD

“The Motu Proprio: Why the Latin Mass? Why Now?”

In order to understand the motu proprio one must understand the history of the Mass. Dr. Moynihan gives a 2000 year history of the Mass in 60 minutes, which is clear and easy to understand. Dr. Moynihan's explanation covers many questions, like:

-  How does the motu proprio overcome some of the confusion since Vatican II?
-  Is this the start of the Benedictine Reform?
-  The mind of Pope Benedict: How can the Church restore the sense of the presence of God in the Liturgy?

[MaryVitamin] fiery furnace

Mary Vitamin for November 17th

Topic: The Fiery Furnace as a symbol of the Immaculate Heart of Mary
Princeton University Chapel: John Damascene

Quote:
Doctor of the Church, St. John Damascene praying to the Blessed Virgin Mary,
"Is it not true that this furnace, [mentioned in the Book of Daniel 3:12-100]  filled with a fire at once burning and refreshing, was a faithful image of thee and an excellent picture of the divine and eternal fire dwelling with thee?"
St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications), 99.

Meditation:
The witness of the three Hebrew youth who would not worship a false god even when threatened with burning in the fiery furnace is an important Old Testament expression of faith. King Nebuchadnezzar, (spelling varies). one of the great villains of the OT, ordered the creation of a remarkably hot fire. The fire was so hot (heated seven times) that when the three young men were bound and cast into it, the men keeping the fire were incinerated. However, the faithful youth with their confidence in the True God were left not only unharmed but comfortable within the fires of this furnace. The young men broke into praise of God and their prayer is remembered on each Solemnity in Morning prayer of the Breviary. (Sunday Week I, Morning Prayer, Second Canticle)

The final episode in this great story, when the King heard the songs of worship he had to look into the oven himself. He not only saw the three young men but also one  'who was like the Son of God!"

St. John Eudes offers this spiritual interpretation of the story:
"It is a great miracle to witness fire and water subsisting side by side in the furnace of Nabuchodonosor. The fire did not turn the cooling water into steam nor did the water quench the burning heat of the fire. What manner of fire is this? It is the fire of divine love burning in the virginal heart of Mary. What is the cooling dew? It is the water of tribulation, which so often flooded the holy heart of the Mother of Sorrows. The fire of love did not dry up the waters of affliction; and the waters of tribulation were unable,  I shall not  say to extinguish, but even to diminish in the least degree the divine ardor of that heavenly fires

We also notice that the three young men were bound hand and foot when thrown into the furnace, but immediately their bonds were consumed by the fire and they were freed within the furnace. … These flames will not harm you; instead they will destroy your fetters and establish you in the holy liberty of the children of God and of His loving Mother. They will inflame your hearts with the fire of heavenly love, they will transform them into divine fire itself. Your hearts will become holy furnaces heated seven times with the fire and flames that leap from the heart of your heavenly Mother."
St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications), 101, 102.

The Immaculate Heart of Mary

Image by Susan WD via Flickr

Resolution:
Today I will entrust my most stubborn fault to Our Lady's Immaculate Heart and beg her to burn away the fetters which hold me bound.
I will pray, "Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for me."

Marian Vow:
St. John Eudes
"Only three Hebrew boys were thrown into the furnace of Babylon, but all children of the admirable Mother of God can enter the furnace of her heart and dwell there as in a paradise of delights where they praise and glorify God forever in company with their heavenly mother, and their hearts are filled with joy and consolation."
St. John Eudes, The Admirable Heart of Mary, (Loreto Publications), 101.

I give this resolution to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Thanks be to God for graces received.

Watch for backlash of Cardinal Schonborn visit to Medjugorje

Watch for the blacklash of Cardinal Schonborn visit to Medjugorje.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_KpRsxgO_1Oc/SwQ-1Ji0WCI/AAAAAAAABX4/UOaPbGepNKc/s1600/Cardinal+Schonborn+2.jpg

I see that the visit of Cardinal Schonborn, now officially confirmed by his personal secretary, has caught opponents of Medjugorje on the back foot.
Their disbelief and anger has now turned against cardinal Schonborn and there is some very negative reporting against him starting to appear in the media.
I suppose it was to be expected. Fear of any sort of recognition by the Church for Medjugorje will turn into anger by many opponents. I’m sure there will be a barrage of heat turned up on Medjugorje over the next few weeks in an effort to combat any good news that may be forthcoming from the cardinal’s visit, even though it is a private occasion.
So don’t be surprised if all the old arguments and nastiness comes to the surface again and the visionaries and priests connected with Medjugorje come under fire.
The boat will be well and truly rocked as the storms blow against it. But rest assured that Jesus is in the boat. Our faith in Medjugorje will be tested. Of that I have no doubt.
Fair play to the cardinal for not letting opponents deter his visit.
I see Benedict hasn’t pulled rank and tried to stop him from visiting Medjugorje. How could he? Didn’t he also visit on two occasions when he was cardinal? I also know of another well-respected cardinal who was in Medjugorje on a private visit a year or so ago.
It is useful to be reminded that Our Lady is fully aware of satan’s plans against Medjugorje. She has warned in several of her messages of the evil one’s intentions. These days Satan wants to frustrate my plans. Pray that his plan not be realized.... These days you have been experiencing how Satan is working.... Pray, because Satan wishes to complicate my plans still further...
Dear children! This Christmas Satan wanted in a special way to spoil God's plans. You, dear children, have discerned Satan even on Christmas day itself. But God is winning in all your hearts. So let your hearts keep on being happy. Thank you for having responded to my call.

(December 12, 1984) My dear children! Satan is so strong and with all his might wants to disturb my plans which I have begun with you. You pray, just pray and don't stop for a minute! I will pray to my Son for the realization of all the plans I have begun. Be patient and constant in your prayers. And don't let Satan discourage you. He is working hard in the world. Be on your guard!
(January 14, 1984) These days Satan is working underhandedly against this parish... Satan wants to work still more fiercely to take away your joy from each one of you.... Dear children! These days Satan is manifesting himself in a special way in this parish. Pray, dear children, that God's plan is brought into effect and that every work of Satan ends up for the glory of God. I have stayed with you this long so I might help you along in your trials. Thank you for having responded to my call. (February 7, 1985)
I invite you to call on everyone to pray the Rosary. With the rosary you shall overcome all the adversities which Satan is trying to inflict on the Catholic Church. All you priests, pray the Rosary! Dedicate your time to the Rosary! (June 25, 1985)
I am with you and I am protecting you even though Satan wishes to destroy my plans and to hinder the desires which the Heavenly Father wants to realize here... Today also I invite you to prayer, now as never before when my plan has begun to be realized. Satan is strong and wants to sweep away plans of peace and joy and make you think that my Son is not strong in his decisions... Today again I would like to say to you that I am with you also in these troubled days during which Satan wishes to destroy all that my Son Jesus and I are building.... Pray, little children, in a special way, because Satan is strong and wants to destroy hope in your heart. I bless you...

nce even when you do not want to do what I am asking you to.

I ask for a clean heart. I ask you to act as I have acted. This is hard in this world. The world tells you to stand up for yourself and be aggressive. I tell you to love your brothers and be kind to them, to love your brothers as yourselves, to be willing to die for your brothers. This takes submission. It takes letting your ego go and yielding to love. It hurts sometimes to let go of self and love your brother. This is My way. They tore My flesh and I forgave them. Like an innocent lamb led to the slaughter, I was crucified. Did I fight back and justify Myself? Live to love. When others are haughty and mean, you think of Me, Jesus Christ, the Son of God and how I love you. Then forgive them and let go.

The way you act when you model yourself after Me is not the way the world acts. Do not be attached to this world. Be attached to Me. Your purpose is to love. No one has any power over you. They may persecute you but I am guarding you in your suffering. Suffer with Me. Be a fool for Christ. Love for Me. This world needs the love of Christ. If you respond as the world does, I cannot love through you.

Your will is entirely free. I call you to model yourself after Me. I in no way took up the sword! My way is love! I cannot love your brothers through you if you choose to follow the world. The way of the world is the self. My way is selflessness. This takes submission of your self and yielding to a higher cause.

Rita, this is the way to peace in your heart. When you do My Will, even when you do not want to, you have peace. You will not have peace until you deliver the letter I told you to. You must obey Me, child, in every detail. You do not know My mind and My ways and it is not up to you to analyze them. I want obedience from you. You are making things harder by stalling. You, My sweet one, will be tested in fire. You will be molded in My special oven. I will melt you in the oven of My Heart. Come and enter there and put all your trust in Me.

Remember the furnace of My Heart. Come to Me. It is hot with the fire of My love, but it is your refuge. You enter there, you are changed into My special soldier of love. Nothing to fear for it is a vat of love. You jump in where others fear to tread. I am the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He who enters My Heart will be refreshed and molded by My love. Nowhere else will you find such love and peace!

Oh, child, I love you. Please do not tarry. Trust the God Who loves you and talks to you daily. How will others trust and have faith if you do not have it yourself? You preach the gospel in your being. When you surrender to Me, you will be free.

You are running your life. Let go, child. You will feel a surge, as if someone lifted a load. Let go to Me. I will not lead you astray. You are holding on when you need to let go. Do not test Me. I know every little thought you have. You cannot fool Me. I know your heart better than you.

Tell Me your faults and ask for help. Don't hide any. I am there to help you. If you do not admit them yourself, you cannot improve. I know every way you need to improve far better than you. Come to Me. Come into My Heart. Be free in My love. This is the way, the only way to peace of mind.

If you go to the heavens, I am there. You, child, can never run from Me. I ardently love you. Surrender and be free.

HEADLINE: John Paul II hailed by Vatican commission

Cardinals and bishops have voted to recognise the "heroic virtues" of the late pope John Paul II, moving him a step closer on the path to sainthood, Vatican sources said on Tuesday.

The 15-strong commission of cardinals and bishops that studied the case are not allowed to speak on their deliberations, but the sources said their vote was in favour of John Paul II, who was pope from 1978-2005.

Current Pope Benedict XVI must validate the commission's decision before Karol Wojtyla can be proclaimed as "venerable".

The final stage before beatification is the examination of the "miracle" attributed to John Paul II for the unexplained healing in 2005 of a French nun who suffered from Parkinson's disease.

Medical and theological panels will look at the case, which will then be considered by the bishops and cardinals commission before Benedict XVI again has to authorise their decisions.

If all these stages are met, John Paul II's beatification will follow, which could take place in October 2010 to mark the anniversary of the Polish pope's election on October 16, 1978.

A worldwide celebration of Masses Dec. 9 will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the death of famed author, lecturer and television evangelizer Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, as well as promote his cause for canonization.

Two women from the Paterson Diocese launched the program: Lo Anne Mayer, a parishioner of Christ the King Church in New Vernon, and La Verne Washburne, a parishioner of Corpus Christi Church in Chatham Township.

Mayer, who is a board member of the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Foundation in Peoria, Ill., and president of its advisory council, credits her friend Washburne with conceiving the worldwide Mass idea.

Washburne said it just struck her after hearing the foundation advise that Rome would like to witness an outpouring of support for Archbishop Sheen "from a lot of people!"

"The Mass is our greatest prayer," she said, "and I can't think of a better way to dramatize his worthiness for sainthood than big turnouts of people around the globe attending Mass in his memory, all on the same day. That's public support on a grand scale; hopefully, it will impress Rome."

9. A meek soul is a throne of simplicity, but an angry mind is a creator of evil.
